I am quirky. I always have been but tried to fit into other people’s norms until I gave up the struggle and became true to me. I often tell people that I’m odd. When they object to the negative, I tell them I spell it awed and that is how I live – in awe.
The importance of family was instilled in me by my mom. I loved growing up in my family of 11 people and despite all our dysfunction, we had fun. Today, my husband of almost 40 years and I have 3 children and 5 grandchildren between us. They make us proud and continue to enrich our lives in so many ways.
I love telling stories. I am a teacher at heart and my stories have profound lessons embedded in the narrative. Five years ago, I set myself a goal to publish my first book. Four years later, I have four books in my Journeys of Courage series. I am proud of my books, and I have a dream that they will be made into a Netfiix series so they can reach a broader audience.
I am passionate about the environment and do what I can to make this planet a better place. I dream of a time when we humans get our act together so future generations can live in peace and harmony.
I am a fanatic about genealogy, and I trace the family trees of new people I meet to see if we connect in any way.
I am more impressed with kindness and respect than with material things.
I love learning and seek out opportunities to discuss different perspectives. I never get bored; this world offers me so much to explore. I love a challenge. I not only think outside the box, I live outside the box.
I am passionate about helping the marginalized and I don’t like the judgement of others as less-than. I believe we are all evolving so let’s not compare.
Some of my favourite things: a warm bed in a cold bedroom, entertaining friends, being in nature, baking bread, good conversation, a warm bath, cinnamon anything, sunrises and sunsets, the cold side of a too-warm pillow, butterflies, growing plants, puzzles, colour, animals, helping people, a lit Christmas tree, accomplishing a goal, reconnecting with a lost relationship, colourful glass, fireworks, silence, laughter, and people who ‘get’ me.
